Children’s Fear Of Dogs
Written by admin on February 28, 2010 – 12:46 pm -
Dog lovers may not understand how some people can be afraid of dogs, but for many adults and children, it’s a very real and distressing problem.
Most of us would agree that we are frightened of a snarling guard dog, but those with a true fear of dogs are terrified of even a small fluffy pup. Even the sound of a bark can cause anxiety and distress.
As with most fears and phobias, fear of dogs usually starts in childhood. It may stem from being bitten by a dog, or even just being knocked down by an exuberant puppy. Sometimes a child will become frightened of dogs if they see their parent is anxious or worried around dogs – they may think if their parent is concerned, there is a real reason to be afraid.
There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why a child becomes afraid of dogs. One child may still love dogs after being bitten, yet another may become very fearful if a little dog jumps on them.
If a child is afraid of dogs, it can cause difficulties in their day to day lives. Dogs are everywhere and it won’t be possible to avoid them forever. It’s worth working with your child to overcome their fear.
A commonly recommended method of getting over any phobia is with a slow, gradual and highly controlled exposure to what the person is fearful of. Some children are just too frightened to be within sight of a dog. In this case, you can start with watching a television show or movie that shows friendly happy dogs. The old Lassie movies would be ideal for this.
When your child is happy and relaxed while watching a dog movie, the next step is to show them some baby puppies that are under 6 weeks of age. At this age, the pups aren’t jumpy or yappy, so shouldn’t cause any anxiety. Your child may then be willing to touch or hold a pup, but be sure to do this away from the mom, as she may be protective of her babies.
If all is going smoothly, take your child to where they can see real dogs, butat this stage be sure the dogs don’t have access to them. They can then get used to seeing dogs running and jumping, and can hear their noise without having to actually be too close to them. A great venue for this sort of exposure is a dog obedience competition. The dogs are all well trained and under control, so you’re not likely to have a dog rush at you.
The final step is to have your child interact with a quiet adult dog. Choose a calm breed such as a whippet or a cocker spaniel, and allow your child to stroke the dog when they feel ready to do so.
One warning – don’t be tempted to rush through any of these steps, or be in a hurry to solve this problem. If you do go too fast, and your child becomes fearful, you can set your progress back significantly.
Although the fear of dogs can be frustrating and may be persistent, in most cases you can overcome it with a slow and careful exposure to dogs.

Fear Of Dogs – Hypnotherapy Treatment For Dog Phobia
Written by admin on February 24, 2010 – 4:49 pm -An irrational fear of dogs, or dog phobia is a not uncommon condition that we treat fairly regularly here in our UK hypnotherapy practice. Its clinical name is cynophobia. Like most other phobias, dog phobia is irrational in that the cynophobic person is well aware that the vast majority of dogs pose no real threat. Though they may be fully aware of this, the person is nevertheless powerless to control their fear. For the person experiencing dog phobia, even the smallest and most inoffensive of dogs is threatening and fearsome. In some cases, even the noise of a dog barking in the distance is sufficient to cause fear and apprehension. In common with other phobias and irrational fears, what has happened to the individual suffering from a dog phobia is that at some time in the past, he or she has been frightened by a dog or has been influenced by another person’s fear of dogs. It may even have been the case that they became afraid when watching a television programme or a movie. Or they may have heard frightening stories concerning dogs relayed by a family member, friend or acquaintance. Most often such an experience has taken place at some time in childhood, though in a minority of cases, it may have occurred when the person was considerably older. Quite often the origin of the fear itself has been forgotten by the individual’s conscious, aware mind, and it feels as though the fear has been with them forever. Such, however, is not the case, since the only fears that human beings are born with are the fear of loud noises and the fear of falling. All other fears are learned. A fear of dogs can affect the individual’s life in many ways. Many of the things that most of us take for granted – visiting friends and family, holidaying, going for a walk in the park or even walking down the street, become real ordeals if there is or might be a dog somewhere in the picture. A dog phobia can even affect the individual’s career and ability to work. Postal employees, social workers, nurses, and home carers can all be seriously affected and prevented from performing their duties because of this irrational fear. The good news is that since this fear is learned, it can also be unlearned. While many ‘hypnotherapists’ attempt to resolve this phobia with suggestion therapy, using some kind of ‘one size fits all’ script, such methods are rarely effective in the long term. In order for a genuine dog phobia to be cleared so that the individual is permanently released from their irrational fear, it is necessary that the actual driver for the fear is neutralized. And this means going to its origin. With modern Advanced Transformational Hypnotherapy we can reach deep within the subconscious mind, to that place where the fear itself is held. Using modern hypnosis, the subconscious mind can be helped to let go of faulty programming and realign itself with reality. And the reality is that the vast majority of dogs pose absolutely no threat. There is no real reason why you or anyone else need to continue to experience cynophobia or a fear of dogs. Most dog phobias can be effectively treated in as little as 2 or 3 sessions of brief transformational hypnotherapy. Seek out a fully qualified and experienced transformational hypnotherapist and you can free yourself for good of your fear of dogs and get on with your life. You will be really happy that you did!

What’s with people saying black people fear dogs and ghost?
Written by admin on February 24, 2010 – 1:34 pm -LOL:).I’m black and I love dogs. What are people talking about? A lot of blacks actually own dogs. Most of my family has dogs and I love it. And as for ghosts, i’ve never seen a ghost, but I’m sure anyone of any race of people would sh*t in their pants if they did.
