Not all religion comes from fear of Death. Some are meant to give purpose to life while you have it.

Fear is an illusion of the human mind.

I agree some people try to make you believe through fear of death, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t other dimensions out there.

not all religion comes from the fear of death. Christianity comes from the truth, not fear. even if i wasn’t scared of dying i would still be a Christian.

The logic is based upon the assumption that religions exist because humans fear death…
“Everyone wants to go to heaven, but no one wants to die…”

Yes. Religion does not come from fear.

Yes, humans still want to explain their origins and stuff.

Religion isn’t about the fear of death. Not Christianity anyway. I don’t fear death.
By Cadillacman on Apr 5, 2010 | Reply
You are SO WRONG in your statement that “all religion comes from the fear of death….” You need to study the religions of the world to find out who very wrong that statement is.
So, your question, which is based upon your invalid belief, is not a viable question.
Go in peace.
And, always remember: — Jesus loves you!!
Sincerely,
Uncle Floyd

No, I don’t think so.
What’s really sad is that if we didn’t have religion AND ATHEISM to help overcome our fear of death, we would overcome death, itself.
Ironic, isn’t it?

Well, I’m a theist and I don’t fear death. However, simple non-existence is a possibility in my faith. There is no eternal torment, either. If you’re real lucky, you go to Valhalla or Folkvangr and get to die all over again while sharpening your fighting skills for Ragnarok. Every day, even. But we have mead and pork there, so it’s a decent deal IMO.

Probably not, but I’m just speculating. Not necessarily “fear” of death, but survival is central to everything we are.

It’s not only the fear of death, it’s more generally the fear of the unknown, of what people can’t understand. The fear of death is just the strongest. Prehistorical men, for instance, believed the sun was a divinity because they didn’t know what it was, but they knew there couldn’t be life without it.
Religion mostly comes with the lack of knowledge, I think.

Religion does not come from the fear of death. I would say fear is part of it for some people, but not for me.

It is not about religion…it is about RELATIONSHIP…….and The Love Of GOD. Exodus 20:20 (Amplified Bible)
20And Moses said to the people, Fear not; for God has come to prove you, so that the [reverential] fear of Him may be before you, that you may not sin.
Job 15:4 (Amplified Bible)
4Indeed, you are doing away with [reverential] fear, and you are hindering and diminishing meditation and devotion before God.

Psalm 99:1 (Amplified Bible) 1THE LORD reigns, let the peoples tremble [with reverential fear]! He sits [enthroned] above the cherubim, let the earth quake! Psalm 119:120 (Amplified Bible)
120My flesh trembles and shudders for fear and reverential, worshipful awe of You, and I am afraid and in dread of Your judgments.
Isaiah 11:2 (Amplified Bible)
2And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him–the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord–
3And shall make Him of quick understanding, and His delight shall be in the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord. And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, neither decide by the hearing of His ears; Jeremiah 32:40 (Amplified Bible)
40And I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will not turn away from following them to do them good, and I will put My [reverential] fear in their hearts, so that they will not depart from Me.
2 Corinthians 7:1 (Amplified Bible)
1THEREFORE, SINCE these [great] promises are ours, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates and defiles body and spirit, and bring [our] consecration to completeness in the [reverential] fear of God. Acts 10:35 (Amplified Bible)
35But in every nation he who venerates and has a reverential fear for God, treating Him with worshipful obedience and living uprightly, is acceptable to Him and [a]sure of being received and welcomed [by Him].

43And a sense of awe (reverential fear) came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were performed through the apostles (the special messengers).
Luke 5:26 (Amplified Bible)

Let me put it this way: I know of no successful religions which say “there is no life after death, but we do have a karaoke night on Thirsdays,,,”

Yes. Fear of death is not the only reason we have religion. It is for anyone needing hope that a larger force will provide for them.

Of course we would have religion, religion is not spawned from the fear of death. Religion is spawn from the curiosity of the universe around us. What is religion?
Psychiatry, science, quantum physics, chemistry, pharmacy.
Religion was an early attempt at determining what made everything work. Nature was a mystery, things could not be understood that could not be seen and nature became the force of gods.
Magic and shamanism was the first system of quantum physics. In fact most shaminist concepts and quantum theories go hand in hand.
Philosphy was the first attempt at understanding behavior and thought.
Alchemy was the forerunner of chemistry.
Sorcery was the first attempt at medicines. In fact the word in greek, pharmekia, is where we get our word pharmecy and it is the word that translates into english as sorcery
