How do you know if your fear of bugs is actually a phobia?

Written by admin on April 13, 2010 – 12:36 pm -

I have an enormous fear of bugs. When Im outside I am always on the lookout for creepy bugs..we live in arizona so there is no shortage. The worst is flying bugs! If I see that there is a bug on my patio I cannot open the door to let my dog out. If I see a wasp I literally begin to run! I just cant be around them at all. Am I phobic or is this just normal to hate bugs this much?

um… you have a phobia…. seeing as bugs ARE everywhere and you don’t see people yelling, screaming, jumping away, and running… well, except my wife when it comes to spiders… and she DEFINITELY has a phobia!

if your fear interferes with your day to day doings, then yes. By your question, yes you have a phobia. Almost all bugs are harmless, which makes your fear irrational.

Many people hate bugs… alot… but if you actually can’t even see a bug without screaming your head off then you have a phobia. It’s ok to have phobias, I’m not afraid of all bugs, except for cockroaches and giant spiders, but other than that I’m ok with bugs. I would advise you to always have some bug spray handy and set traps all around the house. Make sure to stay VERY clean so bugs won’t try to invade your house. Bugs are all around us and even the slightest speck of dirt will attract them. Be very careful and always remember to have these things just in case bugs invade your house.
