How do I overcome my fear of snakes?
Written by admin on March 16, 2010 – 1:39 pm -I love reptiles (including snakes). I love any type of lizard. I own a gecko and 2 beardies.
I know snakes evolved from lizards…but there’s just something about them that makes me feel tense. Maybe it’s their eyes? Or head? Or slippery look to their body without legs? I know a fair amout about snakes. I wanna be a reptile vet…but I can’t if I’m scared of snakes. What do they feel like? Do they bite? When and why do they bite? Would you have to seek medical attention?
How can I overcome this fear?

Look into homeopathic medicine there is a remedy called lassis that helps with that and there are remedies for fear, even though homeopathy is not harmful,I recommend you find a certified practitioner that can prescribe the proper dosage.

I dont think you are alone in this. Best to face your fears than to run away. Why dont you get in touch with a snake handler in your area and go visit.

1) they feel like your lizards.
2) They are more afaid of you, If you can understand that then your half way there. They only strike when they feel threatend. (try being nice)
3) They are very aware of movement. Moving something in front of them makes them follow with there eyes.
Overcome the fear, Go to a local pet store and look at the small snakes, play with them, Its the best way to understand them.

The only way to get over it is to face it. If your scared of touching a snake just hold your breath and do it. If you plan on working with animals it’s likely you will be bitten by something at least once. You can’t let that scare you though. It’s something that happens. Just know that most pet snakes are fairly docile and wont bite you unless you hurt them.

buy a baby corn snake they are small and very docile meaning they will never bite. this will get you used to holding a snake and make you more confident in handling other snakes. This is how I got over my irrational fear of snakes.
